“Democracy”: The term, as envisioned by the ancient Greeks, ascertains that power be shared in order to avoid concentrated power by individuals, groups or governments. Unfortunately, when we end up with one of only two possible options (lLeft or Right, Liberal or Conservative). The preserved power, shared back and forth between the established parties, leaves us with a less than true Democracy. In its purest form, democracy should be about choosing the right people, and not just switching the dial from one side to the other.
